The Riggsby, a popular D.C. restaurant from chef Michael Schlow, will open in 2020 in Bethesda Row, Bethesda Beat has learned.
An upscale full-service restaurant in the Carlyle Hotel in Dupont Circle, The Riggsby serves a mix of fresh seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. The Bethesda location will have the same name, although details on the menu are still to be determined, said Nicole Russo, the publicist for the Boston-based Michael Schlow Restaurant Group.
The restaurant, which will be located in the former Kapnos Kouzina space on Woodmont Avenue, is expected to open in “late spring 2020,” Russo said. It will be located adjacent to Prima, a fast-casual eatery owned by Schlow.
Russo said Schlow decided on the location for The Riggsby based on the success of Prima.
“We like what we’re seeing with Prima so we hope people will embrace The Riggsby as well as the Prima concept,” she said.
Russo said Schlow recently signed the lease for the space and details, such as the restaurant’s décor, menu and hours, have yet to be worked out.
Russo said Schlow, and chefs Alex Levin and Ed Scarpone, who work for the Schlow Restaurant Group, will all be involved in the “opening process” for the restaurant.
The Riggsby in D.C. was ranked 56th in Washingtonian’s 2019 list of the “100 Very Best Restaurants.” When the restaurant opened, the Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema gave it 2.5 stars out of 4 in a 2015 review.
