The Halal Guys holding grand opening for Gaithersburg restaurant Friday

The Middle Eastern fast-casual joint The Halal Guys is having a grand opening for its new Gaithersburg location Friday, the restaurant advertised on its Facebook page.

The restaurant, at 522 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center, is giving away prizes, including an iPad, a TV and $250 in cash. The first 100 guests will also receive “buy one, get one free” platters.

Halal Guys opened its first restaurant in Rockville in February 2018, and later opened a Bethesda eatery. The national chain, which started as a food cart in New York City, serves chicken and beef gyro sandwiches, as well as falafel. Foods can also be ordered in platter form.

The Gaithersburg restaurant is open every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to its website.

Fuddruckers closes in downtown Silver Spring

The national burger chain Fuddruckers closed its downtown Silver Spring restaurant Sunday. Laurie Yankowski, the regional marketing director of The Peterson Companies, which manages the property, confirmed the restaurant’s closing in an interview Monday.

Yankowski said she did not know why the Silver Spring restaurant is closing.

The restaurant, which was at 819 Ellsworth Drive, was the last Fuddruckers in Montgomery County following the August closure of the chain’s Rockville location.

Mandalay moving from Silver Spring into D.C. next year

Mandalay, a Burmese restaurant in downtown Silver Spring, will move into the District of Columbia in August, the restaurant announced Thursday on its Facebook page. The restaurant, at 930 Bonifant St., will move to 7302 Georgia Ave., more than a mile south.

Mandalay has been in Silver Spring since 2004, when it moved from College Park, according to the blog DCFoodies.com.
