With 549 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported on Saturday, Montgomery County marked its 10th consecutive day with more than 300 new cases. On only one day this month, Jan. 5, has the county recorded less than 300 cases.

The county has now recorded 53,832 cases since the pandemic began in March.

There have been 1,177 deaths, an increase of four from Friday. There have been an additional 44 “probable” deaths, meaning the coronavirus is listed as the cause of death, but it was not confirmed with a laboratory test.

Across Maryland, there have been 324,031 confirmed cases of the virus and 6,369 deaths. The state totals increased by 3,292 cases and 47 deaths on Saturday.

Montgomery County continues to have the highest number of confirmed deaths and the second highest number of cases in the state. Prince George’s has the highest number of cases, at 62,491, and the second highest number of deaths, at 1,135.

As of Saturday morning, 216,620 people in Maryland have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 20,646 have received a second dose.

In the National Capital Region, which includes Montgomery, Prince George’s, Frederick, and Charles counties, 54,992 people have been vaccinated, which is 2.3% of the region’s population.
