After seeing its smallest daily increase in COVID-19 cases in two months on Tuesday, Montgomery County on Wednesday returned to a higher level that has been more common, reporting more than 350 new cases.
On Tuesday, the county reported 197 new confirmed cases, its smallest daily increase since Nov. 28.
But on Wednesday, the number of new cases reported was 359. It was the 22nd day this month with more than 350 new daily cases recorded.
In total, the county has confirmed 57,326 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
Eight new confirmed deaths were also reported in the county on Wednesday, raising the total to 1,248.
An additional 44 “probable” deaths have been reported, meaning COVID-19 is listed as the cause of death, but it was not confirmed with a laboratory test.
Across Maryland, 346,559 cases of COVID-19 and 6,821 confirmed deaths have been reported.
As of Wednesday, 51,403 people in Montgomery County had received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, about 4.89% of the population.
There were 6,550 county residents who had received a second dose, equal to 0.62% of the population.
