A man died Tuesday night after he was shot in an area of northern Montgomery County, Montgomery County police said.
In a post on Twitter, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35, a union that represents Montgomery County police officers, described it as a “drive by shooting.”
Javon Jamal Gordon, 23, was found lying in the road in the 12900 block of Ethel Rose Way, with a gunshot wound on his upper body, police said. Residents and officers tried to save Gordon’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman, said in an interview on Wednesday morning that Gordon, whose home was on Ethel Rose Way, “briefly interacted with someone who was in a vehicle” before he was shot. The vehicle left the scene. No one was arrested.
She said detectives are investigating whether the shooter was the person who he talked to or someone else in the vehicle.
“The specific circumstances of what transpired are under investigation,” she said.
Montgomery County’s 911 center received a call about the shooting at about 6:52 p.m. Tuesday.
The area where Gordon was found is near Ethel Rose Playground off West Old Baltimore Road in an area between Germantown and Clarksburg.
