A pedestrian died after a car hit her in Aspen Hill Wednesday night, Montgomery County police said.
Claire E. Weissmeyer Grossmann, 63, of Silver Spring, was trying to cross Georgia Avenue near its intersection with Rippling Brook Drive, police said in a press release.
German Alexis Del Cid Mejia, 19, of Rockville, was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry north on Georgia Avenue when his car struck Grossmann around 11 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Grossmann was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Mejia was not injured.
Police had posted about the crash on Twitter earlier on Thursday, but did not include details about the crash or the identity of the driver and victim.
Thursday’s crash is the third fatal pedestrian crash to occur in Montgomery County in 2021. The other two happened on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring Jan. 15 and March 11.
The total does not include a crash in March in which a driver got out of his car on I-270 after it rolled over, and he was then struck and killed by another vehicle.
In 2020, there were 15 fatal pedestrian crashes in Montgomery County. That does not include a fatality in which a woman was struck on Interstate 270.
The woman’s SUV hit debris, causing her to stop and get out of the vehicle. She was then hit by another vehicle.
