Lao Sze Chuan, a chain of Szechuan Chinese restaurants in the Chicago area, is coming to North Bethesda in the space formerly occupied by BRIO Tuscan Grille at 20 Paseo Drive, according to the property’s leasing broker.

Lao Sze Chuan serves seafood, beef, lamb, poultry, tofu and vegetable entrees, as well as fried rice and fried noodle dishes, according to its website. Most items are priced between $15 and $22.

The restaurant describes itself as “a cornerstone in the Chicago community” and says it is known for its “modern interpretation of classic dishes.”

Adi Mayan, the co-head of asset management for CBRE Global Investors, the leasing broker and property manager, told Bethesda Beat on Monday that it expects the restaurant to open in early June, but an exact date hasn’t been set.

Mayan noted that the restaurant will be adjacent to NoBe Market Apartments. She said the mixed-use property is an ideal location.

“We wanted a nice restaurant where people can come to lunch and dinner. So we have retail and residential and there are a lot of offices nearby,” she said.

Mayan said Lao Sze Chuan will offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Customers can also order takeout.

BRIO closed in 2017 after five years in business.

Robert Dyer reported last month that Lao Sze Chuan would be occupying the space.
