Levain Bakery will start serving its signature rich, dense cookies on Tuesday at 4844 Bethesda Ave. in Bethesda Row.

The bakery, which started in New York City 26 years ago, serves a variety of six-ounce cookies: chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate peanut butter chip and two chip chocolate chip.

The bakery also serves loaf cakes, breads, pastries and coffee.

Although most Levain locations are in New York, the bakery started expanding in the greater Washington market last year, adding one in Georgetown.

Levain co-founders Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald told Bethesda Beat on Friday that the Georgetown location has been successful, and they’re hoping for the same in Bethesda.

“We’re both from New York, and we love a place that has great energy,” Weekes said.

McDonald said she first saw Bethesda three years ago and was “blown away” by the level of activity there. She said she is particularly fond of the Capital Crescent Trail, which connects Bethesda and Georgetown — the locations of Levain’s two D.C.-area stores.

“You could actually get on that trail and just commute between the two stores,” she said jokingly.

In addition to the regular offerings, the Bethesda location, will sell specialty ice cream sandwiches made with gelato from Dolcezza this summer, according to a press release.

One will feature Levain’s chocolate chip walnut cookies with sweet cream gelato in the middle. The other will feature dark chocolate chocolate chip cookies with roasted strawberry gelato in between.

Levain’s Bethesda location will donate 100% of its first day proceeds to Bethesda Help, a nonprofit that offers food and financial support to Montgomery County residents in need.
