County police have identified the driver who died Monday afternoon after his vehicle crashed into a Gaithersburg townhome, sparking a fire, as Victor Cascella, 62, of Gaithersburg, according to authorities.
Around 2:48 p.m. Monday, a 2016 white BMW driven by Cascella was traveling south on Orchard Ridge Drive when it crossed over the center median, went off the road and crashed into a townhome in the 400 block of Orchard Ridge Drive, Montgomery County police said in a press release.
Cascella was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to police. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer posted on Twitter on Tuesday morning that the man had died.
Piringer posted on Tuesday that six adults have been displaced due to the fire, and two people were rescued. Damage is estimated at around $400,000, he wrote.
The area where the fire occurred is near the Kentlands development.
Police are investigating the crash.
