A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and injured in the 4700 block of Elm Street in Bethesda on Wednesday afternoon, Montgomery County Police said.

The victim was an 85-year-old man, police stated.

The collision took place at 3:13 p.m., according to Public Information Officer Lauren Ivey.

The man was taken to a hospital and was in surgery, Ivey stated in an email to Bethesda Beat on Wednesday. On Thursday, Ivey stated the victim was expected to survive.

Officials stated the striking vehicle did not remain on the scene.

Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation.
