Fire and rescue units were dispatched at 2:44 p.m. on Monday to the CVS Pharmacy at the Target in Rio shopping center in Gaithersburg, 25 Grand Corner Ave.
Flames were visible from the street and more than 50 people were standing outside as firefighters arrived at the scene, according to an eyewitness.
Pete Piringer, the chief spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, posted on social media that multiple plastic shopping carts were on fire near the front entrance of the Target.
Crews extinguished the fire which were only on the shopping carts on the outside wall of the building, Piringer wrote. No injuries were reported.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
