Why are you running for this office?

I’m running to be the next clerk of the Circuit Court to provide new leadership, new vision, new energy and improved management to the Clerk’s Office. We need more transparency, more accountability, more diversity and better representation in the Montgomery County Courthouse. Our county has changed, but the courthouse has not. I’m running to be the best clerk ever and to effectively advocate for the staff, our customers, and our community.

What is the most important issue in this race and what specific plans do you have to address it?

There are several important issues in this race: transparency, accountability, representation and leadership. The county has changed demographically but the courthouse leadership has not. The people of Montgomery County deserve courthouse leadership that effectively represents and advocates for them; that treats its staff fairly; and that provides innovative approaches to management and community engagement.

What experience (work, political or other) has prepared you to hold this office?

I have been a member of the Maryland Bar and a practicing attorney in Montgomery County for more than 25 years. In private practice, I have assisted clients in the Montgomery County District and Circuit Courts on family law, wills, trusts and estates, and business law. I have held high-level positions as senior staff and manager in large organizations, including serving as U.S. deputy assistant secretary of commerce and as a member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service. I have served as a chief of staff in the Maryland General Assembly and for the Montgomery County Council. I’ve served as president of large Montgomery County non-profit organizations.
