Earthquake in Delaware felt by Montgomery County residents 

Some Montgomery County residents felt tremors from an earthquake that happened in eastern Delaware on Thursday. The magnitude 4.1 quake happened at 4:47 p.m. Delaware police reported no injuries or damage. People in Gaithersburg, Silver Spring and Olney reported feeling the tremor. [Washington Post]

Search for Amazon’s second headquarters continues

Jurisdictions interested in landing the new Amazon headquarters haven’t yet heard from the company about whether their bids will make the short list. Members of a regional partnership in Charlotte, North Carolina, said they had expected news from the company last week. Amazon received 238 pitches for its second headquarters, and the company said it hadn’t given any cities or counties specific dates for the next steps in the selection process. Montgomery County is one of the Maryland jurisdictions competing for the headquarters. [Washington Business Journal]

Some community advocates are opposing Montrose Parkway East plan

Residents in neighborhoods of Forest Glen and White Flint want the county to do more to improve pedestrian safety. Some of these community advocates are coming out against the Montrose Parkway East project, which they feel would create a barrier for pedestrians between Twinbrook and White Flint. The roadway would also destroy green space by cutting through Rock Creek Park, they say. [Greater Greater Washington]

ICC growing in popularity 

A new analysis shows the Intercounty Connector has become the second-most used toll facility in Maryland. AAA Mid-Atlantic found that there were 30 million trips on the ICC last year and that the Fort McHenry Tunnel was the state’s only toll facility that saw more activity. The nearly 19-mile ICC connects Gaithersburg and Laurel, and some have criticized it as a little-used thoroughfare. [WTOP]
