A new window art installation featuring women artists living in Montgomery County is on display at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s headquarters in Wheaton. The project, organized by Wheaton resident and artist Dinah Myers Schroeder, aims to highlight, honor and uplift Black women.

“I wanted Black women to be shown in a positive light, focusing on their brilliance, strength and unyielding contribution to every facet of society,” Myers Schroeder said in a press release.

MCPS teacher honored for contribution to education during Black History Month

Montgomery Blair High School teacher Kenneth Smith, who developed Montgomery County Public Schools’ Hip-Hop History and Culture course, was recognized by the County Council at its annual Black History Month event this month.

Smith is a social studies teacher and was one of three county residents recognized by the council. His hip-hop course is also taught at Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Rockville high schools. [Source of the Spring]

Fresh Baguette of Bethesda opens in D.C.’s Cleveland Park

The bakery known for its 11-step croissant opened a new location in the Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Cleveland Park on Feb. 21. Fresh Baguette sells pastries, quiches and prepared sandwiches with its bread, baguettes and croissants.

The new shop is located at 3412 Connecticut Ave. Northwest D.C. and open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
