Montgomery County police confirmed through radio communications that the deceased man was a suspect in a stabbing that occurred earlier nearby.

Also, Gaithersburg police said in the email statement that “the description of the pedestrian matched that of the suspect involved in the stabbing.”

County police spokesperson Shiera Goff said police received a call at around 8:59 p.m. for a stabbing in the 500 block of Girard Street, which is around one mile from where the man was struck by the train.

Gaithersburg police said its officers responded as well and located a 51-year-old woman “suffering from lacerations.” Officers provided first aid until MCFRS personnel arrived and transported her to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to Gaithersburg police.

The woman was stabbed multiple times in the torso in a domestic-related assault, according to police radio communications.

The male suspect fled the scene before police arrived, Gaithersburg police said.
