A man died Thursday afternoon after the motorcycle he was driving collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Snouffer School and Centerway roads in Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County police.

Police said in a statement Thursday night that officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded shortly after 3 p.m. to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle. The motorcycle collided with the other vehicle according to a preliminary investigation, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the statement said. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer posted on social media that the motorcycle caught fire in the collision and that two adults were transported to the hospital, one suffering from trauma. The police statement did not mention a second injured person.

Police said the investigation of the collision is ongoing and ask anyone with information to contact them at 240-773-6620.
