A 17-year-old boy was shot in the upper body Friday night in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police. University of Maryland suspends activities at sororities and fraternities

The University of Maryland has ordered fraternities and sororities on campus to suspend social and recruitment activities while it investigates reports of unsafe activities.

Fraternities and sororities were notified of the suspension in a letter sent Friday from university officials. The suspension affects 21 fraternities and 16 sororities. [NBC4]
