Java Nation, which offers coffee and brunch along with dinner and drinks, opened its new location in downtown Silver Spring on Wednesday.

The restaurant, at 1010 Wayne Ave. at Station Square, is the fourth Java Nation location, with the others in Kensington, Rockville and North Bethesda.

Owner Simona Cabana said Wednesday that she decided to open this new location because she was looking to expand Java Nation and because community members in the county asked for it. She opened her first location in Kensington in 2012.

According to Cabana, the downtown Silver Spring location is different than the others, offering two separate spaces divided by a wall: one is a grab-and-go coffee shop, Java Express, and the other is a dine-in restaurant, Java Restobar.

“This is our first urban location, so we wanted to fit into the crowd that is busy, like young professionals, that want to grab something and run to the Metro before work,” Cabana said.

The eatery is less than a half mile, or around a five-minute walk, from the Silver Spring Metro station.

The menu offers a wide selection, including avocado toast and bagels for breakfast or brunch, and empanadas, tacos, steak and burgers for lunch and dinner. There is also an extensive drink menu offering wine and beer, along with craft cocktails, such as flavored margaritas, sangrias and spritzes.

“Everything is made from scratch,” Cabana said, including the coffee, which is roasted in-house.

Java Express will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend. Java Restobar will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday.
