Starting Saturday, Metro service between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor stations will be shut down on two weekends, closing the Bethesda and Medical Center Metro stations on the Red Line, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).

During the shutdown this weekend and March 16 and 17, WMATA will provide express shuttle buses to accommodate riders, according to the agency’s Friday announcement.

There will be express shuttle buses between the Friendship Heights and Grosvenor Metro stations and local shuttle buses to and from the stations via the Bethesda and Medical Center stations, according to WMATA announcement.

The temporary shutdown and addition of shuttle buses will impact Ride On bus bay locations, which will be temporarily relocated, according to WMATA. The following changes will occur:

Friendship Heights

  • Express and local shuttles: located at Bus Bay K (service stop northbound on Wisconsin Avenue, far side of Western Avenue);
  • Ride On Route 34: relocated from Bus Bay K to Bay D;
  • Route L8: relocated from Bus Bay K to Bay E (service is run by Ride On only on weekends);
  • Bus Bay D: shared with a community shuttle that operates every 50 minutes on weekends; and
  • Bus Bay E: shared with Metrobus N6 that operates every 45 minutes on weekends.
