Bethesda native Steven Rales, the billionaire co-founder and chairman of Washington, D.C., conglomerate Danaher Corp., won an Academy Award on Sunday night.

Montgomery County shows off new University Boulevard bus lanes

Montgomery County leaders are touting new buses lanes created along a 2-mile corridor on University Boulevard in Silver Spring.

Officials commemorated the new red-painted lanes, which have been in use since February, during a Friday morning ceremony at Wheaton Forest Local Park. The lanes are located between Amherst and Dennis avenues and can also be used by cyclists. [MyMCMedia]

Starbucks location in downtown Silver Spring to close March 30

The Starbucks location at 915 Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring will close at the end of the month, according to the company. The company said its last day will be March 30 and the store’s employees will have the opportunity to transfer to other local stores.

The Peterson Cos., which operate the downtown shopping and dining development, said it has several prospects to fill the vacancy. [Source of the Spring]
