A Silver Spring man has been indicted and charged for his alleged involvement in a 2023 street race that resulted in a crash that killed the other driver, Montgomery County police said in a Tuesday statement.

Aaron Givens, 33, faces multiple charges, including negligent homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent homicide by vehicle and driving a vehicle in a race/speed contest, according to digital court records.

Givens’ attorney, Matthew Kunka, did not immediately respond Tuesday to a phone call seeking comment.

According to the police statement, officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded around 2:23 p.m. Jan. 17, 2023, to West Gude Drive and Watkins Pond Boulevard in Rockville for a collision.

Givens, driving a blue Ram 1500 TRX pickup truck, was allegedly racing with Romario Coke, 28, of Silver Spring, who was driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50, police said.

While Coke was driving eastbound on West Gude Drive at a high rate of speed, he lost control and crashed into a tree in the center median. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Givens was criminally indicted and charged Feb. 29 for his alleged actions in the incident and he turned himself in to county police on March 4, digital court records indicate.

He was released the same day on an unsecured personal bond of $1,000, according to digital court records.
