Red Hound Pizza is set to open in downtown Takoma Park later this spring, according to an announcement Tuesday from the Old Takoma Business Association.

The restaurant at 7050 Carroll Ave. is owned by Andrea Alvarez and Charbel Abrache, the head pastry chef at Seylou Bakery and Mill in Washington, D.C., association Executive Director Laura Barclay said in the email announcement.

At the D.C. bakery, Abrache “led the pastry team to develop recipes using freshly milled whole grain flours and alternative grains and created its popular pizza program,” Barclay said.

The couple’s Takoma Park eatery will use “freshly milled flour from local and regenerative sources, will incorporate features of both Roman and Sicilian pizzas and will offer seasonal, rotating pizza toppings,” Barclay said. Customers can purchase whole pizzas as well as individual slices.

Barclay noted that the name of the pizzeria came from the couple’s love for their basset hound.

In addition to pizzas, the restaurant will offer salads, focaccia sandwiches and a variety of desserts, according to the announcement.
