A pedestrian was fatally struck in the northbound lanes of I-270 in Gaithersburg early Friday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Around 5:40 a.m., on I-270 North between exit 8 (Shady Grove Road) and exit 9 (I-370), a car struck a pedestrian who entered the roadway, Piringer said. MCFRS personnel responded to the scene to evaluate the pedestrian who sustained trauma, and they did not survive, according to Piringer.

The northbound lanes between the two exits were closed for a few hours but at 9 a.m., the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security posted on X that all of the lanes had reopened.
