Montgomery County police arrested a Silver Spring man Wednesday in connection with an April 8 fatal hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian on a skateboard in Wheaton, according to a Thursday release.

Gilver Yuviny Zelaya Diaz, 42, was charged with failure to return and remain on the scene of an accident involving a death in connection with the death of Jacques Price, 26, of Silver Spring, police said.

According to police, officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded shortly after midnight April 8 to the area of Veirs Mill Road and Monterrey Drive for the report of a pedestrian who had been hit, according to the release.

Through an investigation, police determined Price was riding his skateboard on Veirs Mills Road, near Monterrey Drive, when he was struck by a white Acura traveling westbound. The driver then fled the area, police said.

Price’s death marked the second pedestrian fatality to occur in a three-day period in early April and involve a white Acura. Different cars were involved in the incidents, according to police.

On April 12, the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit located the 2009 Acura TL allegedly involved in Price’s death in the driveway of Zelaya Diaz’s residence on Middle Road and traced the registration to him, according to the release.
