Montgomery County police apprehended six juveniles for two separate stolen vehicle incidents in the Silver Spring and Wheaton areas on Tuesday evening, according to police radio transmissions and police spokesperson Shiera Goff.

At 7:21 p.m., county police were dispatched to the 8800 block of Plymouth Street in Silver Spring for the report of a woman carjacked at gunpoint, according to police radio transmissions. Police were told to look out for three people in a red Hyundai Elantra.

Officers said over the radio that they were able to track the vehicle around the downtown Silver Spring area using a phone left in the car and the Find My iPhone feature. The suspects then abandoned the car and fled on foot, according to police radio transmissions.

By around 8 p.m. the police had located the car as well as the three suspects, according to radio transmissions. Officers also said over the radio that all three of the suspects were juveniles and two of the suspects were 13 and 14 years old.

The carjacking was first reported by DMV News Live on X.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers located a stolen vehicle in the area near Arcola and Hermitage avenues in Wheaton, Goff said. Police followed the vehicle, which sideswiped the police cruiser as it was making a turn, according to Goff.

The cruiser “sustained minor damage,” according to Goff.

The stolen vehicle came to a stop about 2 miles away at the Warwick Towers apartment complex in Silver Spring, Goff said, and officers took three juvenile suspects into custody. Officers are looking for one more suspect, according to Goff.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the scene and conducted a check-up on one of the suspects, Goff said.
