Several homes in a Potomac neighborhood off Falls Chapel Way were evacuated Thursday morning after a work crew struck a gas line in a street, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

An area in the Fox Hills West neighborhood in the 12600 block of Orchard Brook Terrace was cordoned off and homes were evacuated as Washington Gas excavation crews investigated, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media shortly after 11 a.m.

No was injured and no fires were sparked by the leak, he said.

Washington Gas said in an emailed statement that “there was third party damage to a service line” and that “gas was turned off at 11:39 a.m.”

Piringer said residents were allowed back into their homes after the houses were checked by gas company workers.
