Want to get engaged on the most romantic day of the year and get free food in the process? Medium Rare has you covered.

Medium Rare, a steakhouse at 4904 Fairmont Ave. in Bethesda, is offering free anniversary meals for life for any couple who gets engaged at the restaurant on Valentine’s Day, according to owner Mark Bucher.

Make a reservation online or just walk in on Valentine’s Day, since Medium Rare said it always keeps a few tables available.

Restaurant staff said that you can let them know about your proposal plan, and they can “help make the moment perfect.”

“Here at Medium Rare, we’re romantics at heart and foodies by profession. We’re combining the two to bring you an offer that’s a perfect marriage of both worlds,” the restaurant wrote in an email.

The steakhouse has a set prix fixe dinner menu for $28.95, which includes artisan rustic bread, a mixed green salad and the award-winning culotte steak and hand-cut fries with their secret sauce.

The dessert menu features Grandma’s Apple Pie with vanilla bean ice cream, House Specialty Hot Fudge Sundae, Double Chocolate Fudge Layer Cake, Six Layer Carrot Cake and Key Lime Pie. Also, the drink menu has four signature cocktails, one seasonal cocktail and a wide selection of wines and beers.

Medium Rare opened its first restaurant in 2011 in Cleveland Park, Washington, D.C., and its Bethesda location opened in 2017. Now there are locations in Arlington, Virginia; New Orleans, Louisiana; Baltimore (which just opened in November) and one will open soon in Columbia, Maryland.

Bucher said that the restaurant offered this Valentine’s Day special from the year it opened until 2019. Now, the locations will begin this tradition again. He said they’ve had four proposals so far, and he hopes to get even more this year.

“We have a new store now in Baltimore, so with the added store locally, we hope to get one or two [proposals] in each location this year,” Bucher said.

He said that when the proposals end up on social media, it creates some feel-good news people can read about and enjoy.

“For all the lousy news out there, it’s kind of fun and gets people’s minds off stuff,” Bucher said.

Bucher also said he’s never had anyone say no to a proposal at one of his restaurants and he hopes that continues this year.
