Silver Spring man sentenced for Medicaid fraud scheme

Julius Bakari, 46, of Silver Spring was sentenced to three years in prison for “conspiracy to commit health care fraud in connection with a scheme to fraudulently bill Medicaid,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland said in a Tuesday release.

Bakari owns Holy Health Care Services, LLC, a mental health services provider, and he and his co-conspirators “paid bribes and kickbacks to Medicaid beneficiaries to induce them to visit Holy Health for mental health services” and billed Medicaid for visits that did not occur and services that were not provided.

Bakari also is required to pay a restitution of more than $3 million, which will cover the amount of money lost. [Source of the Spring]
